SYDNEY BRENNER (Advanced Scene Study, Six week Intensive)

Sydney Brenner is an MFA trained actor from the internationally acclaimed Moscow Art Theatre School and The American Repertory Theatre's Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University. Sydney moved to New York City at the age of nineteen to pursue her acting career after a brief stint at Vassar College. While in New York, Sydney was accepted to The Actor's Center where she studied under Ron Van Lieu, now head of Acting at the Yale School of Drama and former Head of NYU's Graduate Acting Program; Catherine Fitzmaurice, creator of The Fitzmaurice Technique of Voice; and Casting Director Joanna Merlin, author of “Auditioning”. It was on the recommendation of these three master teachers that Sydney wound up at ART.

While at ART, Sydney was introduced to Master Teacher and Director Scott Zigler, with whom she studied for three years and who also directed her in “Night School” by Harold Pinter. It was through Zigler that she learned the Practical Aesthetics Technique, started by David Mamet and used by The Atlantic Theatre Company's founding member William H. Macy. During her time at ART, Sydney appeared in countless productions. At the Rep she performed in “Marat/Sade” directed by Janos Szasz, “The Island of Anyplace” directed by Thomas Derrah, Chekov's “The Bear” directed by Yuri Yuremin and understudied the lead in the world premiere of Adam Rapp's “Stone Cold Dead Serious”. At the Institute she starred in “Spring Awakening”, “Medea”, “As You Desire Me” (directed by Kate Whoriskey), “King Lear” (directed by Karen Coonrod) and “The Sicilian”, an international touring production that appeared at The Teatre de Fabri in Forli, Italy and The Moscow Art Theatre's American Studio. Sydney also received international praise for her role of The Duchess in Yuri Yuremin and Samrat Chakrabarti's adaptation of “The Man of La Mancha” featured at The Moscow Art Theatre's American Studio.

Sydney has studied with Commedia del Arte master teacher Silvio Castiglioni, Stathis Lavithos of The Greek National Theatre, Mick Barnfather of The Theatre de Complicite, Alvin Epstein, Roman Kozak, Richard Johnson and Jane Lapotaire of The Royal Shakespeare Company, and the world renowned movement teacher and choreographer Andrei Droznin.

Since moving to Los Angeles, Sydney has taught on the faculties of Cal State University Long Beach, Idyllwild Arts Academy, the Los Angeles location of New York Film Academy, where she headed their one year Scene Study course, and, most recently, at The Acting Corps in North Hollywood.
